Daniel Davis (1762-1835) was the U.S. Attorney for Maine 1796-1801 and the solicitor general of Massachusetts (1800-32). He wrote several respected legal works, most notably Criminal Justice (2nd ed. 1828) and Precedents of Indictments (1831).
