MACINTYRE, W. Irwin. Colored Soldiers. Macon, Georgia: J.W. Burke Company, 1923. First edition. Octavo. 12mo. 96 pages, 1 page ad. In original green hardcover binding. 7.75" x 5". Frontispiece is a black and white portrait of a World War I black soldier in uniform who has lost his arm. MacIntyre was a white Georgian author who helped recruit 300 black mule-drivers to serve in France during WWI. He wrote Colored Troops with several vignettes from the perspective of his perception of African Americans and their manners of speech. Similar content in that era is rare to find and gives us a look at the dated view of African Americans decades before segregation ended. Wear to top and bottom of spine, some light stains on cover, and foxing to first few pages. The rest of the pages are clean with crisp text. Overall very good condition. (Inventory #: 18541)
