New York/London: Sterling Publishing Co., Inc.. Near Fine in Near Fine dj. (c.2010). First Edition. Hardcover. [slightly bumped at base of spine (both book and jacket), otherwise as new]. (B&W and color photographs, graphics) INSCRIBED generically and SIGNED by the author at the top of the 2nd front endpaper: "Enjoy! / Richard Schickel." An elaborately-produced, primarily visual retrospective of Clint Eastwood's career as an actor and director, through INVICTUS (2009). It's not particularly adventuresome, either in content or design -- rather than a "Films of" approach, you might say this is a "Pictures of" volume, with virtually every one of Eastwood's feature films (good, bad, ugly, or indifferent) covered in just four pages, one or two of which are almost invariably full-page shots of Clint looking his Clintiest. The text is almost an afterthought, with rarely more than a single page devoted to any film, in which Schickel provides his basic critical-historical perspective. (For only a handful of movies does the book deviate from the four-pages-and-done format, with DIRTY HARRY and UNFORGIVEN being given the most fulsome treatment, at eight pages each.) The filmography, with basic credits for each picture, is relegated to a five-page section at the back of the book. Included in a still-sealed pocket in the back of the book is a DVD (NTSC format) containing THE EASTWOOD FACTOR, a 20-minute short profile featuring numerous film clips. ****NOTE that additional postage charges will be assessed for international shipping of this very heavy volume; if this concerns you, please contact us for a shipping quote before placing your order.**** Signed by Author .
